Village Northwest Unlimited (VNU), a Sheldon Iowa non-profit organization that serves Adults with Disabilities, announced this past week that it has completed their Capital Campaign. The campaign which began in the 4th quarter of 2018, set out to replace (1) twelve bedroom residential (ICF/ID) Intellectual Care Facility/Intellectually Disabled homes on their campus. The original home on campus was built in the 1970’s and was nearing the end of its useful life. The campaign was seeking to raise a total of $3 million. $2.5 million for the physical homes at $1.25 million each, and $500k towards their Legacy Endowment for Direct Support Professionals. The Endowment is designed to more fairly compensate Direct Support Professionals beyond the rates at which wages are reimbursed for through the Medicaid system. Barry Whitsell, President/CEO, along with Ryan Haack, Director of Development announced this past week they had officially closed the campaign and have raised $3,728,822.63, or 124% of their goal! The balance of the campaign funds raised will be designated to the Legacy Endowment. “The support for the individuals with disabilities we serve from supporters in NW Iowa and beyond is something really special. We have held to our strong belief that when our Mission of “Providing Purpose, Privacy and Dignity to all People” remains our focus and passion, that together lives are changed in incredible ways at VNU. Our donors are family, and cannot possibly thank them enough for their continued love and support for adults with disabilities.” Ryan Haack, Director of Development. VNU plans to break ground on the building project this spring and have the residential homes occupied by the Spring of 2021.
