Community Employment Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:  A bachelor’s degree in Human Services with experience in rehabilitation counseling, vocational evaluation or work adjustment or a related rehabilitation field.  At least one year of experience in finding and supporting people with disabilities in community jobs is preferred.  Must have demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.

PURPOSE:  To assure a quality individualized program of services in extended employment settings which will maximize the abilities and potential of assigned individuals served.


Develop and maintain positive personal relationship with persons served and staff.
Promote and develop job opportunities by researching, identifying and soliciting commitments from possible sources of employment.
Assist employers in evaluation of potential barriers in the workplace.
Effectively develop and maintain relationships with prospective employers throughout the community.
Promote, develop and provide training (job coaching) to persons served in both group and one-on-one settings with employers.
May instruct applicants in job application completion, resume writing, job search and interviewing techniques.
Support mission and values of Village Northwest Unlimited.


Lifting:  10-50 pounds, single transferring, and two-man transferring with an average of 75 pounds.  Ability to utilize a mechanical lift for transferring.

Standing:  Due to the range of activities that are required, the ability to stand on cement floors for several hours at a time.

Other Requirements:  Must have/ability to obtain valid chauffer’s license.  Bending, twisting, pulling, pushing carts and wheelchairs, walking persons served with a gait belt, could be exposed to chemicals (limited). 

Visual/Auditory Requirements:  Ability to adequately interact with staff and persons served.
